Why a Workshop on scaling up surface treatments?

Industries are immersed in a continuous development of new technologies to fulfill with a quick response the requirements of the market. Successful cutting-edge technologies arise from fundamental research performed at laboratory scale that, before being implemented at an industrial scale, need to be scaled up in pilot plants. Increasing the dimensions and operating conditions of a technology requires an in-depth analysis to adjust and optimize the whole process.

The aim of scaling up is to identify critical features at each stage of the process and to validate it before its implementation in an industry. Often the scaling up of a technology is focused on the initial stages of a process (e.g., surface preparation, fabrication of the component) and neglects last steps such as the surface treatment of the final component. But, which are the main challenges found during the scaling up of a surface treatment and how can we address them to ensure a successful upscale? “Bridging the gap between lab to industry” is a workshop designed to give insight into the scaling up of different surface treatment processes shedding light on these issues.

Why in the frame of Sure2Coat?

Sure2Coat is a EU project (2023 - 2025) dedicated to develop Sustainable Surface Treatments of Complex Shape Components for Transsectorial Industrial Innovation. The project aims to raise the level of surface treatment methods from research to practical application in industry. This involves validating that the methods provide adequate corrosion protection, are environmentally friendly and can be integrated into production processes with reduced energy consumption and environmental impact. In this context, the scaling up of surface treatments and thus, the use of Pilot Lines are key activities within the project.

Why at Cidetec Surface Engineering?

At Cidetec Surface Engineering we offer R&D solutions by design to boost innovation. We are innovative, creative out-of-the box thinkers, being our goal to develop cutting-edge technologies that can be later transferred to industry. We work alongside our customers to adapt state-of-the-art technologies to their requirements. Our R&D activities have given us valuable proprietary know-how and a patent portfolio that can be tailored to customer needs. We offer a technical assessment, the optimisation of productive processes by on-site evaluation, adaptation and optimisation of commercial processes and a complete testing & characterisation. CIDETEC is Spain’s only technological centre specialising in Surface Engineering. Aligned with sustainability and environmental policies, it counts on state-of-the-art equipment and up-scaling facilities that help accelerate the incorporation of adapted or new surface treatments in the industry.

Do you want to know more about our up-scaling capabilities? Join us in our “Bridging the gap between lab to industry” Workshop.
